Cardenales Little League (Barquisimeto, Venezuela) will be representing the Latin America Region in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, for 2024 Little League Baseball® World Series, Presented by T-Mobile, after a 10-0 victory over Nicaragua to claim the championship.
Venezuela finished the region tournament with a 7-0 record, scoring double-digit runs in all its pool-play games before a 5-0 victory over Panama’s Las Tablas Little League in the semifinals to earn a spot in the championship game.
Venezuela will be making its 22nd appearance at the LLBWS, the sixth-most appearances among international teams. This will be Cardenales LL’s third LLBWS appearance and first since 2015 after finishing as the Latin America Region runner-up in 2023. Last year’s Latin America Region representative out of Venezuela, San Francisco LL, went 1-2 in the 2023 LLBWS, winning against the Panama Region champion in Game 9, but dropping the next two to the Caribbean and Mexico Region champions.
The country has brought home two LLBWS championships, Coquivacoa LL in 1994 and Sierra Maestra in 2000. In Cardenales LL’s last appearance in 2015, the league went 2-2 before being knocked out in Game 25 of the tournament.
With the first-round matchups for the 2024 LLBWS announced on June 12, just one week after the anniversary of the first-ever Little League game and in the heart of the 65th National Little League® Week Celebrations, Venezuela will start the tournament in Game 9, taking on the winner of Game 1 between the Caribbean Region champion and Mexico Region Champion at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 16, at Volunteer Stadium.
