St. Albert Softball Little League earns the final spot at the 2022 Little League Softball® World Series in Greenville, North Carolina, after claiming the Canada Region Championship with an 8-4 victory over British Columbia on Sunday, July 31.
St. Albert Softball Little League finished the tournament with a 5-0 record after outscoring their opponents, 45-11, throughout the Canada Region Tournament. While Canada has yet to win a Little League Softball World Series Championship, St. Albert Softball Little League becomes the first team from Alberta to make it to the World Series since 2000 when Sunridge Little League in Calgary earned the spot. Teams from British Columbia and Ontario have represented the country since 2000, with Hampton Little League and Layritz Little League making the trip since 2013.
The Canada Region champions will play their first game in Greenville in the Orange Bracket on Tuesday, August 9, at 7 p.m. ET against Negros Occidental Little League (Bacolod City, Philippines) of the Asia-Pacific Region.
This will be the second LLSWS in Greenville and the first year with international participants and the expanded field of 12 teams. In 2019, Little League International announced the expansion of both the Little League Baseball World Series and the LLSWS and in early 2020 designated Greenville as the new home of the LLSWS. In addition to the Host (North Carolina) team and four international regions (Asia-Pacific, Europe and Africa, Canada, and Latin America), the expanded U.S. teams include the new Mid-Atlantic, New England, Northwest, and West Regions and are rounded out with the existing Central, Southeast, Southwest.
