Chofu (Japan) Little League defeated Epitacio “Mala” Torres (Mexico) Little League, 5-0, on Sunday as three pitchers combined to throw a shutout, leading Japan to it’s second Little League Baseball® World Series victory.
Japan grabbed an early lead during the second inning before going on to score four more runs during the third inning. Japan was dominant both at the plate and in the field, tallying six hits and letting up no errors.
Japan started Yuto Kakeba on the mound before putting Ritsu Nishikawa in, then closing with Yuto Misaki. The three pitchers combined to strike out 12, let up three hits, and no walks.
Marcelo Herrera started on the mound for Mexico before Jesus Garza came in for relief. Combined, the two pitchers struck out four and walked three.
Japan will continue their run in the Little League World Series against Asia-Pacific on Wednesday, August 21 at 3 p.m. in Lamade Stadium. Mexico will face Latin America on Monday, August 19 at 1 p.m. in Volunteer Stadium.
