In the first game of the 2019 Little League Baseball® World Series, Shendrion Martinus led his team to victory, throwing a no-hitter in Caribbean’s 11-0 victory over Australia Thursday afternoon at Little League Volunteer Stadium.
After a scoreless first inning, the Caribbean Region Champion Pabao Little League scored seven runs in the second inning. Í-Zion Mogen, Fran-J Confesor, Curley Martha, Clay Winklaar, and Nathan Castillo each drove in runs during the inning. They went on to score four more runs in the third inning, holding Australia scoreless and ending the game after four innings via the 10-run rule.
Shendrion pitched through all four shutout innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out one and walking one. Caribbean had 10 total hits and no errors.
Max Miotto was the starting pitcher for Australia, followed by Mikah Targett, letting up five hits a piece. Combined, they walked a total of three batters, Max walking one and Mikah walking two. Australia had four errors.
The Caribbean Region team will take the field again at Volunteer Stadium on Sunday, August 18 at 9 a.m. against the winner of Game 3 between Asia-Pacific and Latin America. Australia will continue its Little League World Series against the loser of Game 3 on Saturday, Aug. 17 at 1 pm in Volunteer Stadium. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN.
