Congratulations to the Berlin, Maryland Junior League All-Stars, who won the USA East regional tournament and qualified for the Junior League Baseball World Series August 11-18 in Taylor, Michigan. Berlin went 5-0 in the 10-team tournament in Freehold Township, New Jersey, defeating the state champions of Rhode Island, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and, in the championship game, Massachusetts again, 4-3. Berlin, making its JLWS debut, is the fifth team from Maryland to play in the World Series for the best teams of 13- and 14-year-old players from around the globe. The East regional champions have been Junior League world champions twice, including Waldorf, Maryland in 1986.
