It came down to the wire on Monday, with Great Lakes taking victory on a dramatic walk-off single in the late innings that sealed their victory over Midwest.
The game was tied at four with Great Lakes batting in the bottom of the sixth when Reggie Sharpe singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run.
Great Lakes earned the victory despite allowing Midwest to score three runs in the first inning. Midwest scored its runs on a single by Maddox O’Connor.
Midwest got things started in the first inning when Maddox singled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run.
Great Lakes evened things up at four in the bottom of the fifth inning. Preston Barr drove in two when he singled.
Great Lakes notched three runs in the fifth inning. Great Lakes scored its runs on a groundout by Brennan Hill.
Preston was the winning pitcher for Great Lakes. He lasted five and a third innings, allowing four hits and one run while striking out nine and walking one.
Connor Duong took the loss for Midwest. He surrendered four runs on six hits over one inning, striking out one and walking one.
Brennan started the game for Great Lakes. He lasted two-thirds of an inning, allowing two hits and three runs while striking out one and walking zero Alex Stewart started the game for Midwest. He allowed one hit and one run over four innings, striking out seven.
Jarren Purify led Great Lakes with two hits in three at bats.
Maddox went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Midwest in hits.
