Janice Ogurcak, Director of Public Programming and Outreach of the World of Little League®: Peter J. McGovern Museum and Official Store, was recently elected as the secretary for the International Sports Heritage Association (ISHA) Board of Directors during the annual conference held at Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in Calgary. Mrs. Ogurcak has been serving as a member of the board since 2012 when she was elected as a director.
“It has been an honor to have served as a member of the Board of Directors for ISHA since 2012,” said Mrs. Ogurcak. “Being elected as the secretary this year provides an incredible opportunity to continue to work with others who are dedicated to improving experiences of museum visitors. I believe in ISHA’s mission to educate, promote, and support organizations and individuals engaged in the celebration of sports heritage.”
Joining Mrs. Ogurcak at this year’s conference, which focused on “Museums Embracing Emerging Technologies,” was the World of Little League Museum Executive Director and Little League Vice President, Lance Van Auken, and Curator and Assistant Museum Director, Adam Thompson. As part of the event, the three World of Little League Museum staff members attended a series of 10 informational sessions along with other sports museum professionals.
Mr. Van Auken was one of the presenting panelists at the conference for “Please Touch,” a session that explored the concept of touch as it relates to interactivity in a museum experience. Also serving on the panel were Hillary Mateev, Exhibit Designer and Architect Associate for Cambridge Seven Associates, and Beth Atlas, Senior Coordinator at the 49ers Museum. Cambridge Seven Associates is the architecture firm responsible for the design of both the World of Little League Museum and the 49ers Museum presented by Sony.
