The $6,144 prize will help offset programming, operating, and administrative costs.
The World of Little League® Museum and Official Store will receive a $6,144 Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission Grant to offset programming, operating, and administrative costs before June 30, 2018.
The Museum, located at 525 U.S. 15 (Montgomery Pike), was among six museums and county historical societies in Bradford, Lycoming, Sullivan, Susquehanna, and Union Counties selected for the funding. Nearly $2 million was awarded statewide.
“PHMC is pleased to offer these general operating support grants to museums and historical societies,” James Vaughan, PHMC Executive Director, said. “The need for this type of funding is something we’ve heard from Pennsylvania’s museum community. It is great that we have a program to help meet that need.”
With the money, the Museum will be able to bring in additional full-time staff as well as host more special events and educational programs. Some of the money will also be allocated towards marketing and promotions as well as updating exhibits.
The Cultural and Historic Support Program is in its fourth year. Its goals include strengthening the Pennsylvania museum community while providing general operating support to museum and official county historical organizations that are not supported by other state agency funding programs.
“Our local museums and historical societies serve as the chief stewards of collections that represent our regions cultural and historical heritage,” Senator Gene Yaw (R-23) said. “They also play an important role in improving the learning experience for people of all ages. The added state support provided by PHMC today will certainly help these entities provide the highest level of public service.”
Award amounts are determined using an equation based on a percentage of the eligible museum’s previous year’s operating budget. The maximum any museum could receive is $50,000. All official county historical societies receive a $4,000 minimum grant.
“As always, we are grateful to the Pennsylvania Historical and Museums Commission for providing this assistance,” said Lance Van Auken, Little League Vice President and Executive Director of the World of Little League Museum. “Museums are a critical part of communities, and the support from the Commonwealth is very much appreciated. This year, in particular, the grant will help us to add an extra staff position here at the museum.”
The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission is the official history agency of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
