LOS BRAVOS DE PONTEZUELA LITTLE LEAGUE FROM SANTIAGO DE LOS CABALLERO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC WINS THE LITTLE LEAGUE BASEBALL® CARIBBEAN REGION CHAMPIONSHIP

For the eighth time in the 69-year history of the Little League Baseball® World Series, a team from the Dominican Republic will travel to South Williamsport, Pa. Los Bravos de Pontezuela Little League from Santiago de los Caballero defeated Aruba Center Little League from Santa Cruz, Aruba, on Satuday, July 25, 13-2, winning the Caribbean Region Championship. Six teams took part in the seven-day event in Willemstad, Curacao.

This is the first Little League Baseball World Series appearance for Los Bravos de Pontezuela Little League, and the first for a team from the Dominican Republic since 1996. That year, the 50th Little League Baseball World Series, a team from Ramon Matias Mella Little League (San Isidro) advanced to the International Championship Game, where they were bested by the eventual World Series Champions, Fu-Hsing Little League from Kao-Hsuing City, Chinese Taipei. That was the last time a team from Chinese Taipei captured the Championship Banner at the Little League Baseball World Series.

Los Bravos de Pontezuela Little League finished the 2015 Little League Baseball Caribbean Region Tournament with a 6-1 record. Throughout the tournament, the team outscored opponents 55-28. Click here to learn more about the Caribbean Region Tournament.

The Caribbean Region Champion will face off against the Europe and Africa Region Champion in the very first game of the Little League Baseball World Series on Thursday, Aug. 20, at 1 p.m., at Volunteer Stadium. AVRS Little League from Kampala, Uganda won the Europe and Africa Region Championship on Thursday, July 23. For more information on the Caribbean Region Tournament, click here.
