Little League® International mourns the passing of Nick Solowey, former New Jersey District 1 Administrator. He was 89.
Mr. Solowey a native of Hillside, N.J., and resident of Stanhope, N.J., served as New Jersey District 1 Administrator from 1981 until 2001, and again from 2002 to 2007. At the time of his passing, Mr. Solowey was serving as the district’s Treasurer.
Prior to serving the district in a variety of capacities, Mr. Solowey was President of Denville (N.J.) Little League and an umpire. One of his proudest moments was officiating games in the Senior League Baseball World Series.
He served in the U.S. Army, and later earned a college degree from Seton Hall University. Professionally, he worked for many years as the Director of Information Technology for Interpace in Parsippany, N.J. He and his wife, Debbie, later founded the Hart Personnel company.
Mr. Solowey was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Olga Solowey; and is survived by Debbie, whom he was married to for 36 years; son, John; daughter, Michelle; and grandchildren, Nicholas and Alexandria.
