Little League® International mourns the passing of David Hinaman, a player on the 1939 Jumbo Pretzel team during the first season of Little League® in Williamsport, Pa. He was 94.
Born in Mansfield, Pa., and a resident of Newville, Pa., at the time of his death, Mr. Hinaman was raised in Williamsport, Pa., He was a Little Leaguer® during the first year of the program chartered by Little League Founder Carl E. Stotz.
Mr. Hinaman retired as a union carpenter from Local #691 and had worked for many contractors in the Greater Lycoming (Pa.) County. He honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, spending time stationed on the USS Eaton, USS McGowan, and the USS Munda Bay.
A member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Williamsport, Mr. Hinaman was an authorized Lay Minister and he sang in the choir. He was also a former Cub Scout Leader.
Mr. Hinaman is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Alice; two sons, Gary and Arthur; and four daughters, Cynthia, Tracey, Doris, and Lori. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, David; granddaughter, Erin; five brothers; and one sister.
