Bend North Little League coach remembered for his memorable mound visit during the 2016 Little League Baseball® World Series.
On November 19, Joel Jensen, coach of the Northwest Region Champion Bend North Little League (Bend, Ore.), was honored at The Musial Awards, hosted by the St. Louis Sports Commission, for the memorable moment he had with his son on the mound during the 2016 Little League Baseball® World Series.
For Mr. Jensen, it was three simple words to his son Isaiah that turned an ordinary trip to the pitcher’s mound into an extraordinary moment that people would never forget.
The video of Mr. Jensen’s and his son instantly became global sensation and epitomized the character of what Little League Baseball is all about as the two shared a special moment that was about more than just baseball, but about a bond between both player and coach and father and son.
About The Musial Awards™
The Musial Awards™ is an extraordinary event honoring the legacy of Stan Musial by celebrating the greatest moments of sportsmanship in North America. Formerly the National Sportsmanship Awards, the event is now named for the late St. Louis Cardinals Hall of Famer and beloved St. Louis sports icon.
Defined by class, excellence, humility and generosity, Mr. Musial embodied the virtues of sportsmanship, so it is fitting that the most meaningful and inspiring night in sports now bears his name. Mr. Musial was also an ardent supporter of Little League, and a driving force of Little League in Europe, along with his friend Ed Piszek, former Little League Foundation Trustee. The two stadiums at the Little League European Region Training Center in Kutno are named for Mr. Musial and Mr. Piszek, who founded Mrs. Paul’s Kitchens.
Hosted annually at the historic 3,100-seat Peabody Opera House in downtown St. Louis, the Musial Awards recognize remarkable individuals and amazing stories of character, kindness, selflessness and integrity in sports. The event is a powerful platform to promote the values of respect and civility on the playing field and throughout society.
