Little League® International has announced Elyssa Melton as its new Southeast Region Assistant Director, effective as of May 9, 2022.
“On behalf of all the staff, volunteers, and players throughout the Southeast Region, I want to welcome Elyssa to our team here in Warner Robins,” said Matt Weber, Little League Southeast Region Director. “Elyssa’s background and expertise, combined with her softball background and Little League history that includes volunteering at our event in 2017, will provide her with the necessary skills to help us continue to grow, support, and develop the leagues and districts throughout our region.”
In this role, Ms. Melton will assist Mr. Weber with the day-to-day operation of the Southeast Region headquarters and support the volunteers and players throughout the region. Some of those duties will include working with leagues throughout the region to enhance operations, developing and implementing training programs, and the operation of the annual Southeast Region Little League Baseball and Softball Tournaments. The Southeast Region Headquarters serves eight states (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia).
“I am beyond grateful for this opportunity to serve with Little League Baseball and Softball,” said Ms. Melton. “Little League has been such a huge part of my family’s life for 14 years and to be able to give back to those that the organization serves is a priceless moment.”
Ms. Melton joins the Little League team after most recently serving as an Eligibility Center Representative for the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) since November 2021 where she provided support and assistance to the NAIA Eligibility Center in shortlisting deserving student-athletes’ in compliance with NAIA rules by thoroughly reviewing academic transcripts and student-athletes’ athletic history.
Prior to her time at the NAIA, Ms. Melton also spent two years working as an event staff member for EPI Events in Augusta, Georgia, where she delivered assistance in end-to-end management of various corporate and public events. In the summer of 2020, Ms. Melton also spent time serving as an operations intern for the American Junior Golf Association, a tournament operations intern for The Ripken Experience, as well as a volunteer assistant for the Paine College Baseball and Softball programs.
Along with her professional experience, Ms. Melton has also volunteered at the 2017 Little League Baseball Southeast Region Tournament, as well as the 2019 Head of the South Regatta, 2019 Peach Belt Conference Soccer and Volleyball Championships, 2019 Ironman 70.3, and the 2015 and 2018 Special Olympics of Georgia events.
A 2019 graduate of Georgia Gwinnett College (GGC) with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Management where she played four years of softball, and a 2020 graduate of Liberty University with a Master of Science degree in Sport Management, Ms. Melton was also named the NAIA Champions of Character Award recipient in 2017.
