Each March, and all throughout the year, Little League® Baseball and Softball celebrates its Girls with Game Initiative, dedicated to honoring the girls and women who have made the Little League program what it is today and those who inspire the future generation of female participants at every level.
As the celebration around 2023 Women’s History Month and Girls with Game Month comes to a close, Little League’s Senior Strategy Executive, Nina Johnson-Pitt, had the opportunity to catch up with Avni Shah, a writer and communications specialist based out of Los Angeles who also serves as a volunteer coach and Little League mom. Most recently, Ms. Shah wrote a story that was picked up by media outlets across the nation calling for Little League dads to encourage and empower more moms and females to serve as coaches.
Thank you @latimes & @NafeesaSyeed for the opportunity to share my thoughts on female coaching in youth sports: https://t.co/hqsgllld71

As part of the conversation with Ms. Johnson-Pitt, Ms. Shah opened up about her own experience at El Segundo (Calif.) Little League and provided words of wisdom with hopes to not only inspire more women to step up as coaches but to serve as role models for the future Girls with Game in communities all around the world.
Little League understands that many women have experienced similar situations to what Ms. Shah has gone through over the years and is committed to providing the necessary resources and education to ensure every female feels included and welcome, no matter if they are a player, coach, or parent.
Launched in 2019, the Little League® Girls with Game Initiative is dedicated to honoring all the girls and women who have made the Little League program what it is today and those who inspire the future generation of female participants at every level. From written stories and feature videos to inspiring quotes and photos across all its digital media platforms, the Girls with Game initiative celebrates the memorable moments, exciting events, and inspiring individuals throughout the Little League Baseball and Softball program all year long.
Each March, in coordination with National Women’s History Month, Little League celebrates its own women’s history with Girls with Game Month across all its social media channels. Help us share your inspirational Girls with Game stories by using #GirlsWithGame and by tagging @LittleLeague on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
In 2024, Little League will also be celebrating 50 years of female inclusion in its program, including the 50th Anniversary of the Little League Softball World Series. Be sure to follow along all summer long and check out LittleLeague.org/GirlsWithGame to get involved in the celebration.
