After eight seasons, Dave Wetmore is stepping down as the Tournament Director for the Little League® Intermediate (50/70) Division Baseball World Series in Livermore, California, and will hand over the role to longtime World Series volunteer, Bill Aboumrad.
“Being involved with the Intermediate World Series for the past decade has been so very special to me and will forever be a piece of my heart,” said Mr. Wetmore. “Thank you to everyone at Little League International for the confidence and support, and a huge thank you to all the volunteers and the executive committee for their commitment and support of this great event. It truly is the best in the world, and I will forever be a huge fan.”
Serving as the Tournament Director since the event first began in 2013, Mr. Wetmore has helped turn the Intermediate World Series into the memorable experience it is today for 12 teams from all around the world as well as the countless fans who tune in to watch each summer. In 2022, he even got to watch the host team, Danville Little League, from his own California District 57 take home the championship banner after finishing the tournament with an unblemished 4-0 record.
“We are grateful for the many years of leadership that Dave has provided for our Intermediate World Series and are excited that Bill has accepted the challenge of leading this event moving forward,” said Dan Velte, Little League Senior Operations Executive. “Since it began in 2013, our Intermediate World Series has brought the thrill and excitement of the World Series to more than 150 players, along with their families, coaches, and communities each year and we are thrilled to continue to grow that experience under Bill’s leadership.”
A member of the Intermediate World Series Committee since the event was first established in 2013, including most recently serving as the Field and Site Director, Mr. Aboumrad has been an instrumental part of the World Series experience in Livermore for the past decade and has committed to making sure the players, volunteers, and fans who come to Max Baer Park each summer leave with lifelong memories.
“First and foremost, I would like to thank Dave Wetmore for his leadership in this event since it first began almost 10 years ago. I am very proud and honored to have been selected as the new Tournament Director and look forward to continuing to grow what Dave has started here in Livermore,” said Mr. Aboumrad. “This event has always ben so very special to me, and I have been very passionate about it since the beginning. There is nothing more fulfilling than to see what this event brings to the players, coaches, umpires, families, and our community. I am looking forward to carrying on this great tradition and am excited to get things started this July.”
