The second virtual clinic on wedge theory will focus on using the mechanic for tag plays on the bases in multi-member crews. This clinic will begin with a review of the basic concepts and fundamentals presented in Wedge Theory Part I and introduce the importance of changing our pre-pitch starting position to for umpires working first, second, and third base in multi-member crews. Using video examples, clinicians will break down wedge positioning at second base for the 60 foot, 50-70, and 90 foot diamonds, focusing first on steal plays and back-picks, then introducing the concepts of rimming and sliding rather than using the traditional pivot, and finally, using the wedge for tag plays at second base on throws from right field, centerfield, and left field. The clinic’s last segment will also use video examples to illustrate how to apply the wedge for tag plays at first base and third base, including back-pick and steal plays, ending with a Q & A opportunity for all participants.
