In the world of Little League®, having support at home is important to a child’s success and experience. For a Napa (Calif.) Little Leaguer Nicolas Manahan, his mother, Michele, is the model of a supportive Little League parent.

Michele Manahan is so supportive that Nicolas nominated her for the 2015 Little League Mom of the Year Award.

“I think my mom is the most amazing mom ever,” said Nicolas in his nomination for his mom. “That is even what it says for my mom’s contact in my phone.

During games, Mrs. Manahan is not just sitting in the bleachers supporting Nicolas while he plays. Mrs. Manahan heads to the press box, working the scoreboard for his games, and also keeps the scorebook.

Often when Nicolas is on his way home from school he’ll call and ask his mom what she’s doing. Her typical answer is: “Little League stuff.”

“I want to be there for my son,” said Mrs. Manahan. “I want to help make our league a success for him, but also for the 500 other kids in our community that play each year. Once you see the need that exists to keep a league running, it’s hard not to do whatever you can to help, and I like feeling like I’ve contributed.”

Created in 1991, the Mom of the Year Award has been recognizing the numerous mothers who have been putting forth an effort to make Little League an enjoyable experience incredible especially for their children.

“Little League is pleased to recognize Mrs. Manahan as the 2015 Little League Mom of the Year,” said Stephen D. Keener, Little League President and CEO. “Like so many Little League moms, Mrs. Manahan has dedicated countless hours to ensure her son and his friends and teammates have meaningful Little League experiences. We’re proud to recognize her hard work and commitment at the 2015 Little League Baseball World Series.”

“I’m blown away that I was awarded this honor,” said Mrs. Manahan. “Little League is an entirely volunteer-run organization that takes the support of a lot of people to run smoothly, and I’m happy that I have been able to be a part of that for our community.”

Nicolas made it clear how he feels about his mom, writing: “My mom deserves this (award) for almost an entire week.”

Mrs. Manahan will be recognized at a breakfast and during an on-field ceremony at the 2015 Little League Baseball World Series.

Over the course of 10 days, 32 games will be played in the 69th Little League Baseball World Series, concluding with the Little League Baseball World Series Championship Game, which is scheduled for 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 30.
