Little League® International mourns the passing of Charlie Niles, Jr., former Ohio District 9 Administrator. He was 87.
Mr. Niles, a native of New Castle, Ohio, served as Ohio District 9 Administrator for nearly 30 years (1979-2007).
Beginning his Little League volunteer service in 1968 with Fairfield (Ohio) Little League, Mr. Niles held many positions with the local league and district, until his election as District Administrator (D.A) in 1979. After stepping down as D.A., Mr. Niles remained involved as an Assistant District Administrator and advisor.
Mr. Niles served in the United State Marine Corp. and was honorably discharged. For 68 years, he was a proud member of the United Auto Workers (UAW) 863, working for 34 years at the Ford Motor Plant in Sharonville, Ohio, and Chrysler in New Castle.
Throughout many years of public service, Mr. Niles collected an array of accolades, highlighted by his 2015 induction into the Butler County (Ohio) Sports Hall of Fame; and founding of the Educate Our Youth Program to raise opioid awareness.
Mr. Niles was predeceased by his brothers Logan, Grover, and Mark; son, Mike; and is survived by his wife, Sue; and daughters Karen, Linda, Lori, and Maryann; sister, Becky, and brother, Paul.
