Little League® International mourns the passing of Tom Gooch, Georgia District 1 Administrator. He was 71.
Mr. Gooch, a native of Abbeville, Ga, was first elected as a District Administrator (D.A.) in 1991, after many years volunteering as a coach and member of the Cartersville (Ga,) Little League Board of Directors. He received his 20-year service pin at the 26th Little League International Congress convened in Minneapolis, Minn., in the spring of 2014.
Attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and receiving his bachelor’s degree in math, Mr. Gooch later attained a Master’s Degree from the University of Georgia, where he performed duties as a graduate instructor of math. Becoming a professor of math and computer science, Mr. Gooch taught at Kennesaw State University for 33 years.
In 2017, Cartersville Little League honored him by dedicating the Tom Gooch Administration Building and recognized him as the first inductee into the Cartersville Little League Hall of Fame.
Mr. Gooch is preceded in death by his parents, Yvonne and Jack Gooch; brother, Don Gooch; and daughter, Holli Gooch. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Susie; brothers, Jim Gooch and Hollis Gooch; sons, Jake, Justin, and Tom Gooch, Jr.; daughters, Emmie Bennett and Betsy Gooch; grandsons, Zachary Griffith and Dylan Gooch; granddaughters, Holli Bennett, Audrey and Ava Moon; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family.
