For the third year in a row, Pitt County Girls Softball Little League (Winterville, North Carolina) will be competing in Greenville, this year earning the bid as the North Carolina (Host) Region at the 2024 Little League Softball® World Series, Presented by DICK’S Sporting Goods.
First earning the direct entry as host in 2022, Pitt County Girls Softball LL returned to Greenville in 2023 as the Southeast Region Champions but will once again serve as the host team after winning the North Carolina State title with a 15-0 victory over Johnston County Little League in the championship game.
Pitt County Girls Softball Little League finished the 2023 World Series with a 4-2 record, making a run to win the Purple Bracket Championship before falling in the World Series Championship to Massapequa (N.Y.) Little League to finish as the runners-up. As the host region in 2022, the league finished with a 2-2 record.
The advancement to the tournament through direct entry comes as part of the recent LLSWS expansion to 12 teams, now in its third year of participation involving international teams, sending the North Carolina state champion as the host team for the event. Since the tournament began in 1974, a team from North Carolina has represented the Southeast Region 11 times, with its only two championships coming from Rowan Little League.
Rowan Little League, will also have the opportunity to compete for a spot in Greenville as the North Carolina representative through the Southeast Region Tournament.
With the first-round matchups set, Pitt County Girls Softball Little League will once again compete in the Purple Bracket and will play in its first game against the Asia-Pacific Region on Sunday, August 4, 2024, at 7 p.m. ET on ESPN+.
In addition to the fun and excitement of the 2024 Little League Softball World Series, participants at this year’s event will also have the unique experience to spend time with the top athletes in the game as Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball returns to Greenville for the 2024 AU Pro Games at the LLSWS, featuring a doubleheader at East Carolina University on Wednesday, August 7.
