Kuei-Shan Little League (Taoyuan, Chinese Taipei) will be returning to Williamsport for the second year in a row and fourth time in history after winning the Asia-Pacific Region tournament over South Korea, earning its bid to the 2024 Little League Baseball® World Series (LLBWS), Presented by T-Mobile.
Kuei-Shan Little League went 5-1 in this year’s region tournament, avenging its only loss from pool play by defeating South Korea, 3-0, in the championship game. During its LLBWS appearance last year, Kuei-Shan Little League made it to the International Championship round before falling to eventual World Series runner-up, Curaçao, but did win the third-place game over the Southwest Region, 10-0.
This marks the country’s third-straight trip as the representative of the Asia-Pacific Region, with Fu-Lin Little League (Taipei, Chinese Taipei) earning the bid in 2022. This year’s inclusion will also mark Chinese Taipei’s 32nd overall appearance in the LLBWS dating back to its first in 1969 when it won the World Series title.
Aside from having the fourth most LLBWS appearances by an international country, Chinese Taipei also holds numerous entries in the team and individual record books. It has won 17 of the 37 LLBWS Championships that featured an international winner, as well as the most consecutive appearances in championship games (6) on two separate occasions (1977-82; 1986-91). Chinese Taipei has thrown two perfect games (1973,1979), while also not allowing a hit during its 1973 run. Its championship game against Texas in 1995 holds fourth place in all-time attendance with an estimated 42,000.
The first-round matchups for the 2024 LLBWS were announced on June 12, just one week after the anniversary of the first-ever Little League game and in the heart of the 65th National Little League® Week Celebrations, as Kuei-Shan Little League will face off against the Canada Region champion in Game 3 of the series on Wednesday, August 14, at 5.p.m. in Volunteer Stadium.
