South Seoul Little League from Seoul, South Korea, became the second team to earn its spot at the Little League Baseball® World Series in Williamsport, Pa., after claiming the Asia-Pacific Region Championship title with a 6-1 victory over Chinese Taipei.
Throughout the course of the tournament, the South Seoul Little League offense was able to combine for 68 total runs throughout the Little League Baseball Asia-Pacific Region Tournament while the defense was able to record three-straight shutout victories to earn a spot in the championship. The Asia-Pacific Region representatives finished the tournament with an unblemished 5-0 record to claim their ticket to Williamsport.
This marks the third-straight year, and fourth time in the last five years, that a team from South Korea will represent the Asia-Pacific Region in Williamsport. Including this year’s team, there have been a total of eight teams from South Korea in the Little League Baseball World Series (1984, 1985, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018). Following Seoul Little League’s World Championship Run in 2014, Little League growth in Seoul has led to expanded leagues and opportunities. With South Seoul Little League this year, the past three years have featured three different teams have advanced through the South Korea tournament to represent the Asia-Pacific Region in Williamsport: West Seoul Little League in 2017 and East Seoul Little League in 2016.
South Seoul Little League will open the 2018 Little League Baseball World Series with a first-round matchup against the Caribbean Region on Thursday, August 16 at 1 p.m. in Volunteer Stadium on ESPN. Spanning the course of 10 days, 32 games will be played in the 2018 Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, culminating in the Championship Game, which is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 26.
