Williamsport native and former Little League® International Board of Directors Chairman to oversee the coordination and execution of Williamsport Congress in 2022.
As Little League® International looks ahead to welcoming its dedicated volunteers from around the world to Williamsport in June 2022 for its International Congress, the Little League International Board of Directors announced that Williamsport native and former Board of Directors Chairman, Tim Hughes, has been appointed as the Congress Chairman.
“Williamsport is the birthplace of Little League, and there is no better person on our Board to serve as Chairman for Congress than Tim,” said Hugh E. Tanner, Little League International Board of Directors Chairman. “As a native of Williamsport, as well as a former employee and past Chairman of our Board, Tim has a tremendous knowledge of the Williamsport community and has developed an outstanding relationship with its businesses, volunteers, and community members over the years that will ensure that Congress is a top-notch experience for all.”
Mr. Hughes was elected as a member of the Little League International Board of Directors in 1996 and served as the Board’s Chairman from 2004-07. Prior to his service on the Board, Mr. Hughes also served as an employee for Little League International from 1975-88.
The role of the Little League International Congress Chairman is to oversee the coordination and execution of the event while working with the hosting community to ensure the best possible experience for Little League’s volunteers and all the members, businesses, and volunteers within that community.
“It is an absolute honor and privilege to be named as Chairman for the 28th Little League International Congress and to serve as the liaison to the Williamsport community as they help us welcome our thousands of dedicated volunteers to the birthplace of Little League,” said Mr. Hughes. “Congress is one of the best opportunities to bring all our volunteers together as we look to write the next chapter in the Little League story, and there is no better place to do that than where it all began, here in Williamsport. I look forward to this great honor and can’t wait to bring our staff, volunteers, and the entire community together as One Team. One Little League.”
The 28th Little League International Congress will convene June 10-13, 2022, throughout the Williamsport community with the final session taking place on the day that starts National Little League Week, the kickoff of the Little League International Tournament Season, and the celebration of the 75th Little League Baseball® World Series. The last Little League International Congress to be held in Williamsport was in 1989, in coordination with the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the organization, and provided all the Little League volunteer District Administrators the same hospitality that the Williamsport community shows to the World Series teams, fans, and volunteers every summer.
