In 1999 Little League Inc. initiated a World Series for its Junior Softball Division, for players ages 13-14. The Little League World Series (for boys ages 11 and 12), of course, has become a fixture on the national sports scene, having been around for 60 years, and is now broadcast around the world.
The Little League Junior Softball Division World Series was awarded to Washington District 9 and is played in Kirkland, Washington a trendy suburb of Seattle (If you have ever shopped at Costco and bought “Kirkland” Signature brand items it is because Costco’s World Wide Headquarters was in Kirkland, Washington.
The first series was won by Midway Little League from Woodway-Hewitt, Texas. From there the tournament took off and has been a success ever since.
