Chofu Little League will be returning to Williamsport this August for the 2019 Little League Baseball® World Series after being crowned Japan Region Champions with an 8-0 victory over Ushiku Little League on Sunday. The team finished the Japan Region tournament 4-0 after outscoring their opponents, 37-1, in the 16-team event.
Chofu Little League last made the trip to Williamsport back in 2016 where the team suffered its first two losses to Canada and Curaçao before defeating Texas in the consolation game. This August will be the league’s third ever trip after winning the Little League Baseball World Series in 1976, advancing to the final game behind a perfect game thrown by Kiyoshi Tsumur that summer. This will also mark the 30th team from Japan to qualify for the event with Japan gaining direct entry to the tournament in 2007. Japan is second all-time in Little League Baseball World Series Championships with 11, only behind Chinese Taipei with 17.
Chofu Little League will open the 2019 Little League Baseball World Series against the Europe and Africa Region Champions on Friday, August 16 at 2 p.m. in Volunteer Stadium. Spanning the course of 10 days, 32 games will be played in the 2019 Little League Baseball World Series in Williamsport, culminating in the Championship Game, which is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday, August 25.
